ABERCROMBIE & FI.. CAYETANO??

This past Sunday wasn't any ordinary Sunday. I was invited to attend the 1st Annual Rice Festival in Kahului. Upon getting there, I had no idea what i was in store for. I mainly wen in support of Anabelle's mom and her association who were performing a dance routine from their native Bantay, Philippines. Looking in, it was a panoramic view of very well dressed Filipino men and women. Once being checked in, Anabelle and I find a seat on the far right facing the stage. After a few speeches, the emcee does a roll call and introduces the dignitaries attending the night's festivities. Mike Victorino and Mike Molina amongst other Maui politicians were in house. Then the emcee said, "Governor Benjamin Cayetano and Congressman Neil Abercrombie. My reaction was, "What, Abercrombie's here, holy shit, and Cayetano?" "Dude!"

Shortly after their introduction, Congressman Abercrombie is making his political rounds, shaking hand and taking pictures with the local attendees. As he makes his way towards us, I tell Anabelle, "Dude, take a picture with Abercrombie then take one of me with him." Standing beside him, I didn't realize that he was that short. On TV he looks a lot taller than he is. He's seriously pushing 5'1" maybe 5'2", but no more than that. When Anabelle took her turn, Mr. Abercrombie was cool enough to joke with her say that them "short people need to stick together." That made her day, at least for the moment. And this is what we got.

CONGRESSMAN NEIL ABERCROMBIE

After we ate and enjoyed the several performances that took place we ended up seeing Governor Cayetano walking around and taking pictures. I tell Anabelle that we need to get pictures with him too. Done with his many photo ops with the other people that were there, I asked him, "Mr. Cayetano, may I get a picture with you sir?" Anabelle snaps the picture as we quickly ask if we may get another one with him. Governor Cayetano obliges and asks me, "Oh, is this your daughter?" Laughing, i say "No" as Anabelle smiles from such a flattering compliment not just by another person, but by a Governor.

GOVERNOR BEN CAYETANO

Like I said, it wasn't any ordinary Sunday.
